Hasselgren Engineering was selected to provide design, manufacturing, assembly and testing services for the development of the prototype one-cylinder, four-stroke opposed piston gasoline engine. This prototype engine by Pinnacle Engines is aimed at the huge scooter and three-wheel auto rickshaw market in Asia.

Pinnacle Engines from San Carlos, CA was founded by Monty Cleeves in 2007.  Hasselgren Engineering provided resources in design consulting, manufacturing, fabrication, engine assembly, fuel management controls and dyno testing – a one-stop shop.  Hasselgren’s AVL testbed has provided over 500 hours of testing for the prototype engine.

The Machine-shop at Hasselgren Engineering in Berkeley, California is available for performance engine machining services.

For high quality valve jobs using  Newen’s new Fixed-Turning machine or precision decking on the Berco with XYZ 0.0001″ positioning, Hasselgren has always offered these services as a job shop in addition to prepping Hasselgren’s own engines.

Hasselgren’s CNC Sunnen Hot Hone is used in conjunction with custom heated torque plates and oil heated to engine operating temperature for the truest bores when the engine is fully loaded.

Hasselgren also owns CNC Mazak and Mori-Seki VMC’s and an Okuma lathe for prototype or production parts.

For valve diameters from 13mm to 80mm+ (0.52-3.15″), Hasselgren can prepare a cylinder head with greater accuracy and for any valve seat material.

Hasselgren has developed an oil swirl pot to eliminate oil delivery issues under high g loads, both lateral and longitudinal, by expanding oil tank capacity.

The scroll top design incorporates three ports for scavenged oil, catch tank and engine vent in case of positive crank case pressure.

The compact screw top allows for easy filling and level checking and the assembly fits under most formula car engine bay covers.  The mounting flange has been designed to fit on the Hewland FTR style oil tank/gear cases but can be customized for other applications.

Exhaust Manifold Flange Design

Hasselgren has expanded its fabrication capabilities to include custom stainless or mild steel exhaust manifold assemblies.  Hasselgren can design and machine flanges and assemble for prototype or production quantities.  We can also advise on muffler requirements to fit chassis space and sound level constraints.

Barrel throttles have an inherent advantage over butterfly throttles in regards to flow and power.   This package has been designed for stock port injection or “trumpet” injection.

In “trumpet” or “gantry” style injection systems (where the injector is mounted upstream of the velocity stack) the barrel throttle typically has issues with part throttle fuel droplet handling.  Hasselgren’s internal design details addresses these shortcomings.

Note: as a retrofit to a Swift 014 chassis, the trunnion bar also needs to be replaced.
